Cigarette use has been declining in many countries, leaving the tobacco industry searching for new ways to market its addictive products. The Foundation for a Smoke-Free World (FSFW), fully funded by tobacco giant Philip Morris International (PMI), has been especially effective at promoting rhetoric that PMI’s new tobacco products are “reduced risk” or “cessation tools,” despite insufficient evidence for either claim.
